2 Covid deaths, 66 pc rise in cases in a day to 402 in Gujarat

After reporting 241 new cases on March 24, cases rose by 66 per cent within a day to 402 cases. Active cases have now risen to 1,529 cases, seven of whom are on ventilators.

Gujarat reported 402 new Covid-19 cases Saturday with the day’s test positivity rate inching towards two per cent—an increase from the one per cent test positivity rate recorded 10 days ago on March 16. The state also reported two patients succumbing to the infection, one from Ahmedabad city and another from Kutch.

After reporting 241 new cases on March 24, cases rose by 66 per cent within a day to 402 cases. Active cases have now risen to 1,529 cases, seven of whom are on ventilators.

The state conducted nearly 21,000 tests Saturday but only 2,400-odd tests were conducted in Ahmedabad, including the city and rural limits.

Ahmedabad recorded 220 cases, of which all but one were reported from Ahmedabad city. The city also reported a patient succumbing to Covid-19. The day’s test positivity rate for the district (city and rural combined) stood at nearly 10 per cent.

Surat city reported 25 new cases, while seven other cases were reported from the rural parts of the district. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation reported 28 new cases and 12 cases were reported from its rural parts. Among the smaller districts, Morbi reported 18 cases and Amreli reported 15 new cases.
