Haryana’s Aam Aadmi Party unit’s senior vice-president Anurag Dhanda Saturday challenged Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to hold a joint press conference on the SYL Canal and clear their respective parties’ stand on the issue.

“Chief Minister Khattar made a statement that AAP has double standards on the issue of SYL. But, in 2019 prime minister Narendra Modi had said in Charkhi Dadri rally that the water flowing to Pakistan will be stopped. Even after four years, the Modi government has not given the rightful share to Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi by stopping the water flowing to Pakistan,” Dhanda said.

Dhanda also attacked Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar for claiming that his state does not have even a drop of water to share. “Haryana chief minister’s stand is completely contradictory to what his own party’s Punjab state president is saying. Is this not the hypocrisy of BJP? BJP had many such opportunities when there were BJP governments in Punjab, Haryana and the Centre. So why didn’t BJP solve this problem then?”

“Punjab and Haryana have been left to fight among themselves. The Supreme Court has also said that the central government should mediate and provide water to Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. If any citizen of India faces shortage of water, it is the responsibility of the central government to provide them water. It has been 56 years and the politics on the issue of SYL is still going on. Rather than doing politics, I would like to invite the chief minister of Haryana to come and hold a joint press conference in which he can clear stand of his party and we shall do so for our party,” Dhanda said.
