Amid volatility, domestic equities ended on Friday led by gains in Wipro, Nestle India, and ITC. BSE benchmark Sensex soared 463.06 points, or 0.76 per cent to close the week at 61,112.44, while broader NSE Nifty climbed 137.65 points, or 0.77 per cent to end the session at 18,052.70. Wipro climbed 2.79 per cent after the company announced a Rs 12,000 crore share buyback proposal. Meanwhile, the Nifty IT index gained 1.21 per cent. All sectoral indices ended in green, as the PSU Bank index soared 2.36 per cent, and the Nifty media index climbed 2.06 per cent. Nestle India gained 2.77 per cent, followed by ITC climbing 2.43 per cent to close the week at Rs 425.95. L&T rose 2.20 per cent to touch a record high of Rs 2,347 on BSE ahead of its quarterly results. Adani Enterprise soared 3.72 per cent today, while Adani Ports climbed 3.22 per cent. The group stocks soared after a news report said Adani group is looking to raise $1-1.5 billion for financing new green energy projects in the conglomerate’s biggest borrowing since the Hindenburg report published in late January. Britannia, SBI, Tech Mahindra, Reliance, and Bharti Airtel were also among the top gaining stocks today. Axis Bank fell over 2.50 per cent and was the biggest laggard in today's session after the private lender reported Rs 5,361 core loss in the March quarter on Citi acquisition payout. Bajaj Finserv erased its morning losses to close 0.49 per cent lower, while Hindustan Unilever plunged 0.13 per cent. Titan, ONGC, JSW Steel, Cipla, Asian Paints HDFC, and M&M were among the top losing stocks today. Broader markets outperformed key indices today, as Nifty Next 50 soared 1.28 per cent, followed by Nifty Midcap 100 rising 1.15 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 50 and Nifty Midcap 150 climbing 1.05 per cent each.
