Domestic equities slumped for fifth session straight on Wednesday amid broad selling and the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. BSE benchmark Sensex slipped 522.82 points, or 0.81 per cent to 64,049.06, while broader NSE Nifty 50 plunged 159.60 points, or 0.83 per cent to 19,122.15.
In the intraday session, Sensex hit a low of 63,912.16, while the Nifty 50 fell to 19,074.15.
Across the key indices, Cipla, Apollo Hospitals, NTPC, Adani Enterprises, SBI Life, Divis Labs, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, HDFC Life, Tata Motors, Infosys, IndusInd Bank, Eicher Motors, L&T, Bajaj Finance, Grasim, and Bajaj Auto were the top loser.
Broader indices also extended the losing run as only India Vix ended in green. Nifty 100 slipped 0.81 per cent, Nifty 200 fell to 0.78 per cent, Nifty 500 to 0.76 per cent, Nifty Midcap 50 to 0.66 per cent, and Nifty Midcap 100 to 0.65 per cent.
Only metal and pharma indices closed in green, as media slipped 1.66 per cent, financial services 25/50 fell 1.15 per cent, private bank fell 0.99 per cent, healthcare index 0.98 per cent, and realty 0.96 per cent.
In the 30-share Sensex pack, only Tata Steel, M&M, SBI, Maruti Suzuki, and Nestle India closed in green.
