Amid volatility and mixed global cues, domestic markets ended higher on Thursday. BSE Sensex gained 98.84 points, or 0.16 per cent to close at 61,872.62, while broader NSE Nifty50 rose 35.75 points, or 0.20 per cent to end the session at 18,321.15.
Sensex fell 289.12 points, or 0.46 per cent today to touch an intraday low of 61,484.66, while the Nifty50 plunged as much 83 points or 0.45 per cent to touch a low of 18,202.40.
Broader markets outperformed key indices today, as Nifty Midcap Select gained 0.85 per cent, Nifty rose 50 gained 0.69 per cent, Nifty Next 50 climbed 0.56 per cent, and Nifty Smallcap 50 jumped 0.40 per cent today.
The stock of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) jumped 4 per cent in the intraday trade after the general insurer posted 466 per cent in its Q4 net profit. The stock ended 1.76 per cent higher on BSE. Meanwhile, after opening lower, Nykaa’s share ended 1.64 per cent on BSE after the beauty and fashion platform reported its profit plunged 72 per cent in the fourth quarter.
On the other hand, Adani Enterprises ended 2.39 per cent higher today, after opening lower, as the stock exchanges said that the company’s share was put under short-term ASM framework.
Bajaj Auto, Adani Enterprises, Bharti Airtel, ITC, Divis Lab, Kotak Bank, L&T, Power Grid, and Bajaj Finance were the top gaining stocks today. On the other hand, Wipro, Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, UPL, Hindalco, Sun Pharma, HDFC and Hindustan Unilever were the top losers today.
Sectorally, the Nifty FMCG index gained 0.61 per cent, consumer durbales jumped 0.45 per cent, metal gained 0.30 per cent, while the auto index jumped 0.29 per cent.
