Sensex gains 75 points, Nifty closes at 17,764; Bajaj duo shine, ITC’s mcap now 6th highest

ITC today jumped 0.48 per cent, to become the sixth most valued company in term of market capitalisation. The FMCG major's mcap surpassed Infosys' to Rs 5,10,232.27.

Domestic equities ended slightly higher on Tuesday amid volatility as the HDFC duo weighed, while, Bajaj duo, Bajaj Finance, and Bajaj Finance rose over 2 per cent.

BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 74.61 points, or 0.12 per cent to 60,130.71, meanwhile, broader NSE Nifty50 closed 20.30 points, or 0.11 per cent higher at 17,763.70.

Bajaj Finance climbed 2.38 per cent today, while Bajaj Finserv gained 2.11 per cent, ahead of the companies’ quarterly results due today. Meanwhile, after climbing over 2 per cent, IndusInd Bank settled 1.66 per cent higher today, after the private lender on Monday posted a nearly 50 per cent rise in its net profit for the fourth quarter.

Bharti Airtel, SBI, ICICI Bank, Reliance, L&T, Adani Enterprises, Britannia were also among the top gaining stocks today.

On other hand, HDFC Bank tanked 1.54 per cent, followed by HDFC at 1.14 per cent. Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharma, UPL, Axis Bank, Wipro, and Hindustan Unilever were among the top losing stocks today.

Nestle India ended flat, in negative, after the FMCG major announced that its Q1 net profit increased 25 per cent to Rs 737 crore.

Ipca Laboratories fell 10.22 per cent to a near three-year low after the pharma company agreed to buy a 33.38 per cent stake in Unichem Laboratories.

Broader markets also ended higher as Nifty Smallcap 50 gained 0.65 per cent, followed by Nifty Next 50 at 0.45 per cent and Nifty Midcap Select at 0.43 per cent.

Nifty Consumer Durbales tanked 1.15 per cent, while, Nifty Healthcare Index ended 0.23 per cent lower. Nifty oil and gas was the top gainer today as the sector ended 0.60 per cent higher.
