Idea Cellular shares surge over 4%

In a lacklustre stock market,the BSE benchmark Sensex closed at 17,130.67,down 20.62 points.

Defying a sluggish broader market,shares of Idea Cellular today soared more than 4 per cent ahead of its financial results to be announced later this evening.

At closing,Idea was up 4 per cent to Rs 83.30. During the day,the scrip gained 4.74 per cent to Rs 83.90 on the BSE.

On the NSE,the stock settled at Rs 83.60,up 4.37 per cent from the last closing price.

In terms of volume,7.13 lakh shares changed hands on the BSE,while more than 99 lakh shares were traded on the NSE.

“Idea was among the top gainers rising over 4 per cent on expectations of good set of results,” Sharmila Joshi Head Equity Fairwealth Securities said.

In a lacklustre stock market,the BSE benchmark Sensex closed at 17,130.67,down 20.62 points.

A meeting of the Board of Directors of the company will be held today to approve and take on record the financial results for the financial year ended March 31,2012,according to BSE.
