PM likely to receive CSS report by June

The first meeting of sub group on rationalisation of CSSs was held on March 27 in the NITI Aayog.

A panel of chief ministers delving on rationalisation of centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) is likely to submit its report to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by June.

The sub-group on CSS, comprising 11 chief ministers and headed by Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday discussed the funding pattern and utility of various CSSs being run by different government departments. “ There were apprehensions whether there could be a cut in the actual monetary outlay,” Chouhan told The Indian Express after the meeting.

Some chief ministers were of the view that number of CSSs should be brought down and ineffective ones shelved. Chouhan said the panel has asked NITI Aayog CEO Sindhusree Khullar to meet officials from the states at regional level to take their views on the issues discussed in the meeting by April 27, when the panel meets again. The sub-group would submit their report to Modi by end of June, he added.
