No extension for SAIL chairman

The appointments committee of cabinet (ACC) headed by PM Narendra Modi has ruled out extending his tenure and handed over the company’s charge to steel secretary Rakesh Singh, a ministry source said.

State-run steel manufacturing firm SAIL will have a new chairman as the government on Wednesday ruled out granting extension to its current chief C S Verma.

The appointments committee of the cabinet (ACC) headed by PM Narendra Modi has ruled out extending his tenure and handed over the company’s charge to steel secretary Rakesh Singh, a ministry source said.

“We have been communicated by DoPT of the ACCs decision and the ministry’s secretary is preparing to take charge,” the source said.

The source, however, refused to attribute any reason behind the cabinet’s decision to refuse extension saying ACC takes its decisions after viewing things in totality.
