Bharatiya Janata Party’s priority will be to recreate the investment cycle: Arun Jaitley

Bharatiya Janata Party's Arun Jaitley says current environment has hit economic activity.

Bringing the investment cycle back and giving a decisive leadership will be the first priority of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) if voted to power in the upcoming general elections in 2014,said Arun Jaitley, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha,in New Delhi on Friday.

“Our priority will be to recreate the investment cycle,” said Jaitley as he said that the current environment has brought down the economic activity.

Speaking at the FICCI Ladies Organisation annual inter-state meet Jaitley blamed a weak leadership at the Centre for the current situation where the investment cycle has broken down,GDP growth rate has gone below 5 per cent and has led to an overall environment of despondency.

Calling for the need for decisive leadership,Jaitley criticised the leadership at the centre and said,”The PM leads the central government,he must be decisive, must have the authority to overrule people, must have the capacity to take an unpopular decision and should have the ability to communicate and take people into confidence. Ultimately Prime Minister’s are judged not by the number of years they remain in office but by the direction they give to the country and I think this has hurt us,” said Jaitley.

As he focussed on bringing the investment cycle back he said that the country needs to come back on growth rates of 8-9 per cent.
