SBI chief bats for new infrastructure financing model

SBI said infrastructure financing is important in order to take the country forward on the economic front.

State Bank of India chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya on Monday said India needs to identify new models for infrastructure development and financing in order to take the country forward on the economic front.

Banks have been weighed down because of lending to several infrastructure groups, who have been affected because their projects have been hit either by a slowdown or lack of approvals.

“Lets look for the best models in the world… and then go and adapt these model,” Bhattacharya said at the Awards function of the Bombay Management Association (BMA). More than 370 projects with an investment of Rs 18,47,266 crore are stuck for want of various approvals and the project monitoring group is reviewing these.

Tata Son’s chairman emeritus Ratan Tata, said, “India is poised for growth … India will stand counted in the world.”
