Bush. President Obama appointed Kerry as Secretary of State in 2013. His tenure saw efforts towards Israeli-Palestinian peace and the landmark Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA). He also signed the Paris Agreement on climate change. Returning to public service in 2021 under President Biden, Kerry served as the first US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate before joining Biden's 2024 presidential campaign. His contributions include significant diplomatic achievements and a long-standing commitment to environmental protection. In May 2024, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
