Jayant Chaudhary is the national chairman of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), a Rajya Sabha MP, and a prominent face in Western Uttar Pradesh. Jayant, who was born in 1978, comes from a political dynasty, being the grandson of India's fifth Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh and son of a former Union Minister Chaudhary Ajit Singh.
After graduating from Delhi University and the London School of Economics, Jayant spent 17 years as a computer software engineer in the US. In 2009, he returned to India, entering politics from his family's stronghold, Mathura, in Uttar Pradesh. He won the Lok Sabha seat, becoming the youngest MP from his party. Jayant contested from Mathura in the 2014 general elections, however, he lost to BJP candidate Hema Malini.
He, along with his party, joined the NDA alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, after which he decided not to contest elections by himself.
Jayant has been a vocal critic of the Land Acquisition Law, advocating for fairer compensation for farmers whose land is acquired for development projects. He has also introduced a private member's bill in Parliament to amend the Right to Information Act, aiming for greater transparency in public-private partnerships.
