AI Is Powering Delhi Police: Special Commissioner Devesh Srivastava on New Criminal Laws

In an exclusive interview, Special Commissioner (Crime) Devesh Srivastava said Delhi Police is using artificial intelligence to strengthen crime control and traffic management under India’s new criminal laws. Facial recognition tech is being deployed across sensitive zones, and the Integrated Traffic Management System is being rolled out to reduce congestion. Forensic support has also been upgraded, with 30 mobile vans and six new units at the Forensic Science Lab, all using QR codes to preserve evidence integrity. Srivastava said trials in absentia and limited adjournments are part of the legal overhaul aimed at ensuring faster, more efficient justice.
