WATCH: LAPD Releases Video of Sikh Man Shot Dead While Wielding Machete in Downtown Los Angeles

A shocking police video has been released showing the moments before 35-year-old Gurpreet Singh, a Sikh man armed with a machete, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police near Crypto.com Arena in July. The incident unfolded on the morning of July 13, when Singh abandoned his car at a busy intersection and began performing Gatka—a traditional Sikh martial art—while aggressively swinging a two-foot-long machete at passersby. At one point, he even appeared to cut his own tongue with the blade. Despite repeated police orders to drop the weapon, Singh refused, briefly threw a water bottle at officers, and then led them on a short pursuit. After colliding with a police vehicle, he finally stopped near Figueroa and 12th Streets, where police say he charged at them with the machete. Officers Michael Orozco and Nestor Espinoza Bojorquez opened fire, striking Singh. He later died in the hospital. The LAPD says no officers or civilians were injured in the ordeal, but the shooting remains under investigation.
