Ukraine Boosts Gas Supplies With New Greece–U.S. LNG Agreement | Russia-Ukraine War

Ukraine has signed a crucial agreement to import U.S. liquefied natural gas through Greece from December until March 2026, aiming to strengthen its winter energy security as Russian attacks escalate. The deal between Greece’s DEPA and Ukraine’s Naftogaz revives gas flows through a Balkan pipeline link and helps Ukraine compensate for disrupted domestic production. Greece recently reached its first long-term contract to supply U.S. LNG to Europe starting in 2030, following the EU’s approval of a Russian LNG ban from 2027. Athens says the Ukraine deal not only supports Kyiv but also reduces the presence of Russian gas in European markets. The agreement positions Greece as an increasingly important energy transit hub for Europe.
