Commentary
The West Indies are looking to bounce back in the series after losing the first match to Nepal. With Kyle Mayers and Jewel Andrew opening the batting, they'll aim to chase down Nepal's total and keep the series alive. Nepal, on the other hand, is riding high after their historic win and will look to seal the series with another victory. Dipendra Singh Airee will bowl the first over for Nepal.
…THE RUN CHASE…
Chasing 174 to level the series, the West Indies have a challenge ahead. Nepal, buoyed by their strong finish with the bat, will be confident of defending this total. So, who are you backing to take this one? We’ll find out shortly. Join us after the break for the second innings.
Jason Holder is up for a chat. He praised Nepal's batting performance, saying they applied themselves well and put his team under pressure, setting up an exciting run chase. Holder noted that the pitch had improved since the previous match, with the ball coming onto the bat nicely and a true bounce. He believes 170 is a par score in T20s and is confident that his team has a good chance of chasing it down.
The West Indies started strongly with the ball, keeping things tight through the first half of the innings. However, the final five overs saw them lose control, as Nepal’s batters went on the attack. Skipper Akeal Hosein was the standout performer with two wickets, while Blades chipped in with one. Kyle Mayers, tasked with the final over, managed to pick up a couple of late wickets, but overall, it was a below-par effort from the Men in Maroon.
An impressive batting performance from Nepal helps them to post a competitive total of 173/6 in their allotted 20 overs. After choosing to bat first, they found themselves in early trouble at 43/3 in the seventh over. However, a brilliant 100-run partnership between Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora for the fourth wicket turned the innings around. The duo initially took a cautious approach, stabilizing the innings before shifting gears in the latter overs. Jora was the aggressor, smashing 63 off just 39 balls, while Sheikh played the anchor role, finishing unbeaten on 68. Towards the end, Aadil Alam provided a late flourish with a quickfire 11, helping Nepal cross the 170-mark and finish strongly.

The stage is set for the start of the 2nd T20I! Nepal's openers, Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh, are walking out onto the field, ready to face the West Indies. Jediah Blades is preparing to bowl the first over, marking the beginning of the match.
Ian Bishop's pitch report highlights the favorable conditions for cricket, with a pleasantly cool evening and a dry, hard surface. The pitch's sheen suggests that wrist spinners may occasionally get some grip, but overall, batters are expected to thrive. Bishop predicts a high-scoring game, with more runs than the 148 scored in the first T20 International, provided batters play sensibly. With no dew in the opening match, the stage is set for an exciting contest if the trend continues.
Akeal Hosein, the skipper of the West Indies, says that they would have batted first as well, but adds that it’s a good pitch to do both. Shares that they want to understand and adapt the conditions well, and need to do the right things. He is pleased with the younger guys and hopes for it to continue. Ends by adding that they have made two changes with Obed McCoy and Ramon Simmonds missing out. In comes Zishan Motara for his debut and Jediah Blades.
Nepal's captain, Rohit Paudel, has decided to bat first, citing that the conditions favor his team's batting approach. He's proud of his team's recent performance, which brought joy to their fans back home. Paudel expects a score of 150-160 to be competitive on this wicket. Due to a forced change, Mohammad Aadil Alam will replace Nandan Yadav in the lineup.
West Indies (Playing XI) - Kyle Mayers, Amir Jangoo (WK), Ackeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew, Keacy Carty, Navin Bidaisee, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Akeal Hosein (C), Jediah Blades, Zishan Motara.
Nepal (Playing XI) - Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh (WK), Rohit Paudel (C), Kushal Malla, Gulshan Jha, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sundeep Jora, Aadil Ansari, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi.
TOSS - Nepal won the toss and they have decided to BAT first.
The West Indies had their moments in the first game, especially with the ball. Jason Holder and Navin Bidaisee were standout performers, claiming seven wickets between them to restrict Nepal to under 150. However, the chase faltered despite useful cameos from Amir Jangoo, Ackeem Auguste, Fabian Allen, and Akeal Hosein. Bidaisee top-scored with 22, but the inexperienced batting lineup ultimately fell short. So, can the West Indies level the series and set up a decider, or will Nepal make history with an unassailable 2-0 lead? We’ll find out soon enough. Toss and team news coming up shortly. Stay tuned.
In the first T20I, Nepal posted a competitive total of 148, thanks to key contributions from Rohit Paudel, Kushal Malla, and Gulshan Jha. Their bowlers then rose to the occasion as Kushal Bhurtel, Dipendra Singh Airee, Karan KC, and Lalit Rajbanshi delivered disciplined spells to secure a 19-run win. Now, the Asian side will be hoping for a repeat performance to notch a landmark series win against a full-member Test-playing nation.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the second T20I in the three-match series between Nepal and the West Indies, from the iconic Sharjah Stadium in the UAE. With a historic win in the opening match, Nepal have taken a 1-0 lead and now stands just one victory away from sealing the series. The Men in Maroon, on the other hand, will be eager to bounce back and keep the contest alive.
... MATCHDAY ...
27th September will go down as a red-letter day in the history of Nepalese cricket. Regardless of the result, it was always going to be a special occasion for the Asian nation as they embarked on their first-ever bilateral series against a full-member side. But a victory for Rohit Paudel and his men made it all the more historic. That result has now left Akeal Hosein and Co. in need of a strong response when the two teams meet again at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium for the second T20I. After being asked to bat first, Nepal posted 148, a total that looked par at the halfway stage. However, their spinners tightened the screws, and the West Indies fell short by 19 runs. It was an uninspiring batting display from the visitors, with players getting starts but failing to convert, compounded by a couple of run-outs that only made matters worse. Another trial by spin is expected, and the onus will be on Kyle Mayers, Ackeem Auguste, and Keacy Carty to step up. Jason Holder and leggie Navin Bidaisee spearheaded the bowling charge, with Akeal Hosein also chipping in, but fielding remains an area that demands immediate improvement. Speaking of fielding, Nepal were sharp in that department for the most part, though there were a couple of lapses towards the end. Much like the West Indies, their batting was also a case of starts without conversions, but with Rohit Paudel and Kushal Malla leading the way, those contributions proved enough on the night. Nepal will, however, hope for a stronger showing from their opening pair of Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh to set the tone. With the ball, it was a collective effort from the spin unit of Dipendra Singh Airee, Lalit Rajbanshi, Rohit Paudel, and Kushal Bhurtel, before Karan KC sealed the deal at the death. The experienced Sompal Kami was taken apart and will be eager to bounce back. All in all, Nepal will look to build on their dream start, with history beckoning as they aim for a first-ever series win against a full-member nation. The West Indies, on the other hand, will be desperate to prove their pedigree and force a decider. Another intriguing contest awaits us at Sharjah.
And that's a wrap for the 2nd T20I! Nepal has made history, sealing the series with a game to spare. The third and final match is scheduled for September 30, 2025, at 2:30 pm GMT. Tune in an hour early for match buildup and updates. Until next time, cheers!
Nepal's captain, Rohit Paudel, expressed his team's elation after winning the series against West Indies. 'We are very happy,' he said, emphasizing that this victory was a long time coming, especially against a Test-playing nation. Paudel praised Sundeep Jora and Aasif Sheikh's impressive performances, noting that Jora's aggressive batting style complemented Sheikh's gameplay well. He also commended the team's bowlers for their strong start in the powerplay and highlighted Nepal's pride in their fielding, a skill they've honed over the last decade. Paudel attributed the win to the team's collective effort, stating, 'The credit goes to the boys.'
West Indies captain Akeal Hosein reflected on the team's performance against Nepal, acknowledging the hosts' unity and experience as significant factors in their success. He emphasized that despite the West Indies' reputation, the real challenge begins once the game starts, and it's not about past statistics or team names but about adapting to conditions and performing on the field. Hosein praised Nepal's bowlers for exploiting the pitch conditions effectively and noted that the West Indies' slow start in the powerplay put them at a disadvantage. He stressed the importance of being prepared for the challenges of international cricket, urging his team to reflect on their abilities and work ethic, questioning whether they're truly international material and if they're putting in the work to succeed at this level.
Aasif Sheikh is the Player of the Match for his excellent knock. He says that he felt like the wicket was around 160-170. Adds that the plan was to go slow and take on later. Credits Sundeep Jora, who kept the momentum and found sixes at will. Shares that they want to finish on a high note and make 3-0. Ends by adding that cricket is a festival in Nepal and thanks the supporters who always back them.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier, Nepal posted 173/6 in their 20-over quota, thanks to a brilliant batting display in the second half of their innings. After a shaky start where they lost Kushal Bhurtel, Rohit Paudel, and Kushal Malla cheaply, standing at 43/3, Aasif Sheikh and Sundeep Jora steadied the ship. Sheikh scored an unbeaten 68 off 47 balls, while Jora smashed 63 off 39 deliveries. Mohammad Aadil Alam added 11 off 5 balls, helping Nepal reach a competitive total. For the West Indies, Akeal Hosein took 2/21, Kyle Mayers claimed 2/26, and Jediah Blades got 1/27.
Nepal's fielding was phenomenal, making 173 look like a much more challenging total. Their bowlers were unplayable, with Aadil Ansari claiming 4 wickets and Kushal Bhurtel taking 3. Lalit Rajbanshi, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Karan KC each took a wicket, showcasing Nepal's impressive team effort. The ground fielding was also outstanding, with some brilliant takes that further restricted the West Indies' scoring opportunities.
The West Indies' innings was a struggle from the start, and they ultimately fell short by 90 runs. The batting display from players like Kyle Mayers and Jewel Andrew was disappointing, as they played below their usual standard. The team managed just 41 runs in the first 10 overs while losing 4 wickets, effectively ending the contest. Jason Holder tried to spark a comeback, top-scoring with 21 runs, but even he couldn't do much. A poor batting display once again from WI played a key part in their downfall.
Nepal has made a statement on the international stage with this series win against the West Indies! By winning the second game, they've taken an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, cementing their historic triumph. It was a no-contest in this game as Nepal have won this by 90 runs.
