Commentary
The West Indies innings is underway with Amir Jangoo and Kyle Mayers at the crease. Dipendra Singh Airee is set to bowl the first over for Nepal. The Nepal players have taken up their fielding positions, and the stage is set for an exciting contest between the two teams. Can Windies chase down 149? Or will Nepal defend this and cause an upset? Let's find out.
... The Run Chase ...
As the Windies prepare to embark on their run chase, the question lingers in the air - Can they successfully chase down the target, or will the Nepalis' bowling unit rise to the challenge? The stage is set for a riveting second innings, where every run and wicket will shape the narrative of this encounter. Stay tuned as the first delivery of the second inning is not far away.
The Nepalis lost four of their top batters in just 13 overs, putting 89 on the board, the remaining players in the batting order scrambled to boost the score as much as possible. However, the Windies bowlers excelled in the death overs, executing their strategies effectively to prevent any boundaries from being scored. Their disciplined performance kept the pressure on the batting side and limited their scoring opportunities.
Gulshan Jha is up for a chat and expresses that he enjoyed his time playing with the team, expressing excitement for future matches. He noted that the boundary wasn't particularly large, but he was waiting for the right delivery to capitalize on, referring to it as 'his zone ball'. With a good score to their name, Jha is optimistic about what's to come.
After losing two openers in quick succession, skipper Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel rose to the occasion to anchor the innings. They put together a vital partnership, adding 58 crucial runs to the scoreboard and stabilizing the situation. However, as they began to unleash their big shots, Navin Bidaisee was brought into the attack and quickly turned the tide. He effectively handled the threat, claiming the wickets of both batters in swift succession. First, Kushal Malla fell to his impressive bowling, followed by Rohit Paudel just a couple of overs later.
What an outstanding performance by the West Indies! A massive shoutout to Jason Holder and Navin Bidaisee, who truly deserve the admiration of every cricket fan for their incredible bagging 4 and 3 scalps respectively! Their exceptional bowling put relentless pressure on the Nepal batters and for that, the Windies were able to restrict their opposition to 148 runs for 8 wickets.

We are just a few minutes away from the action to get underway. But before that, both sets of players and the match officials are getting lined up and as per the visuals, they are having a one-minute silence to pay tribute to those who have lost ltheir ives in Nepal. Now, it's time for national anthems. It will be the West Indies' first, followed by the Nepal national anthem.
West Indies coach Rayon Griffith expressed his excitement about the upcoming series, particularly for the young players in the squad. He highlighted Ackeem Auguste's promising performances and noted the team's efforts to strengthen their spin department with two leg-spinners. Griffith also emphasized the importance of the series against Nepal, mentioning the busy schedule ahead.
Nepal captain Rohit Paudel said that losing the toss wouldn't be a bad thing, given Sharjah's track record, where teams batting first have had success, such as in the previous tri-series. He expressed his team's excitement and pride in playing their first bilateral series against a full member side, especially against the two-time World Champions West Indies. The team is feeling positive and ready for the challenge.
West Indies captain Akeal Hosein expressed his desire to bowl first, citing the need to assess the pitch's offerings. After a couple of underwhelming series, Hosein emphasized the importance of winning this series to boost morale ahead of the World Cup. On his first stint as captain, Hosein said it's a great feeling to lead the West Indies and looks forward to the new opportunity. The team has made some changes, omitting Jediah Blades, Zishan Motara, Karima Gore, and one other player.

Hello and welcome to everyone tuning in, a thrilling three-match T20I series between Nepal and the West Indies, kicking off at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium! Get ready for an exciting encounter between two teams eager to make their mark.
... MATCHDAY ...
The Nepal vs West Indies T20I series is set to kick off at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, with the West Indies looking to assess their squad depth ahead of the Men's T20 World Cup. Their team boasts exciting young talents like Jewel Andrew and Kyle Mayers, who promise aggressive starts, while newcomers Amir Jangoo and Ackeem Auguste bring valuable CPL experience. Seasoned players Jason Holder and Fabian Allen add depth to the squad, alongside a pace-bowling trio of Shamar Springer, Obed McCoy, and Jediah Blades competing for a World Cup spot. Captain Akeal Hosein will also play a key role. In contrast, Nepal faces a tough challenge after struggling with inconsistency, particularly in their recent tri-series against the Netherlands and Scotland. Led by Rohit Paudel, Nepal's batting lineup will rely on crucial contributions from Aarif Sheikh and Dipendra Singh Airee, while the bowling department will be spearheaded by spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. This series promises to be thrilling, pitting the relatively new-look West Indies side against the rising Nepal team, offering fans a treat with both teams showcasing their skills.
Right then, that's it from this exciting contest between Nepal and the West Indies. Nepal caused an upset and defeated the Windies by 19 runs. The next game of this bilateral series will be played on 29th Sept 2025 at 2.30 pm GMT. You can tune in an hour early for the pre-match buildup. Cheers for now.
Nepal captain Rohit Paudel expressed his delight at winning the Player of the Match award and beating a Test-playing nation for the first time. He felt that a score of 150-160 was par on the pitch, and his team matched West Indies' intensity 80-90 percent. Paudel praised the spinners for their brilliant performance and dedicated the award to those who lost their lives in recent tragic events. He thanked the fans and emphasized that this win is just the beginning. With a clear mindset to win the series, Paudel cautioned against complacency, urging his team to stay grounded and focus on the next challenge.
West Indies captain Akeal Hosein praised both teams for playing good cricket, but acknowledged that his team fell short. He felt the target was decent and the pitch was good, but the Windies gave away about 15 runs too many. Hosein highlighted the importance of setting a platform for his batters to build on, which would allow them to finish the game. He also commended Nepal's fielding, particularly the two crucial run-outs, and acknowledged Nepal's talent and skill.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Kushal Bhurtel of Nepal expressed his happiness after Nepal's historic win against West Indies, a team considered one of the toughest in T20 cricket. He enjoys contributing to the team with both bat and ball. Bhurtel acknowledged the critical situation in Nepal and the excitement this win would bring to fans in Nepal and Dubai. He credited the bowlers for their outstanding performance, noting that a total of 140-150 was expected to be sufficient against the less experienced West Indies side. This win marked Nepal's first victory against a Test nation, adding to Bhurtel's joy
Earlier, Nepal was restricted to 148/8 in 20 overs after losing the toss in the series opener against West Indies. Nepal struggled, losing two wickets in the Powerplay at 34/2. Rohit Paudel top-scored with 38 off 35 deliveries, while Kushal Malla, Gulshan Jha, and Dipendra Singh Airee also contributed. However, Jason Holder (4/20) and Navin Bidaisee (3/29) dismantled Nepal's batting order, holding them to a modest total at the halfway stage.
Nepal's bowling was precise, with 7 bowlers contributing to their historic win. Except for Sompal Kami, every bowler took wickets. Kushal Bhurtel excelled, taking 2/17 in 4 overs, while Nandan Yadav, Karan KC, Lalit Rajbanshi, Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Paudel each claimed a wicket, showcasing a well-rounded team effort.
West Indies struggled in their chase of Nepal's modest total, managing just 40 runs in the Powerplay while losing 2 wickets. No batter seemed comfortable, and Nepal's bowlers continued to take regular wickets. Navin Bidaisee top-scored for Windies with 22 runs, but even he struggled, playing at a strike rate below 100. Akeal Hosein, Ackeem Auguste, Keacy Carty, and Fabian Allen showed some resistance, but it wasn't enough for the Windies to overhaul the target. Yes, this was a relatively young squad from the Windies but still, they have no excuses for a defeat against an Associate nation. A jubilant moment for Nepal and their fans as they have got one over the mighty Windies.
History in the making as Nepal has won this contest by 19 runs. This happens to be Nepal's first victory against a full-member nation.
