Afghanistan will feel disappointed. With plenty of spinners in their ranks, they were way below par as compared to Rahkeem Cornwall. Amir Hamza did pick up 5 wickets but there was no consistent control over the lines or lengths from both, Hamza and Rashid. If the skipper had bowled to his true potential, perhaps this could have become a one-inning shootout.

Amir Hamza to Jason Holder, OUT! That is a terrific piece of stumping from Afsar Zazai! For all his shouts and constant chatter behind the wickets, this is some excellent work because his concentration is not wavering at all. The tall Holder fails to hold himself and is gone cheaply. Hamza tosses one up around off and gives it a bit off more air to it. Holder lunges to defend but is beaten by pace. His back leg goes up in the air slightly, probably for not even half a second. But that is enough for Zazai behind the wickets as he is super quick to whip the bails off in a flash. He is confident and goes for the appeal. The umpire goes upstairs to check and then the replays come in. It shows that Jason had lifted his foot in the air and got back in, but only after Afsar had dislodged the bails. Holder takes the long walk back.

Shamarh Brooks has played just 2 Tests but he seems to be a man brimming with confidence. His 75 from 129 balls have been a combination of attack and defense, punishing the poor balls and seeing out the good ones. Afghanistan spinners have bowled well, with plenty of shouts from behind the wickets but the counter-attack from the Caribbeans has meant that the dot balls have not been allowed to pile up. Starting the day in foggy conditions, the pair of Campbell and Brooks continued from where it left off last night. The duo added 82 for the third wicket, before a cheeky shot and a blinder from Ihsanullah brought about the downfall of Campbell. That in turn, led to a collapse as West Indies slipped from 116/2 to 150/5. But since then, Dowrich has given excellent company to Brooks and the partnership is worth 45 now.

WEATHER - How is the weather? Winter is setting in India and given that Lucknow is closer to the northern parts, it is pretty chill and hazy. Visibility could be an issue but the good news is that there will not be any delay and we are set to start on time.
How do the hosts look at this? No point in dwelling over the fact that they could manage only 187. Bygones are bygones. If they can manage to restrict the West Indies lead to under 50, there is still a possibility of a one-inning shootout. Once that happens, 4th innings batting is never gonna be easy. The Caribbeans are stroke-makers, so perhaps stifle the run flow, induce mistakes and get wickets would be the mantra. From the visitors' point of view, seeing off the first hour and then capitalizing on the day would be ideal. If they bat through the day, they should get somewhere between 300-350, which would, in all means, shut the door for the Afghans.
The track is spinning but it is by no means a minefield. Yes, batting is a bit difficult but given that it is only Day 2, it will not be so difficult. Javed Ahmadi and Ihsanullah showed in the morning session yesterday how to bat while John Campbell and Shamarh Brooks are already playing well. The key is to get oneself set. Once you are in, batting becomes easier. Having said that, it is not a type of pitch where you are always in once set - so concentration and focus are important.

Hard to explain Afghanistan's state of mind. What bit them? Do they be happy with 187 on a spinning surface? One reckons that it is 60 under par. Disappointing aspect is that they were not bounced out or beaten by pace. Pure off spin consumed them where only 4 batters showed some grit.
Bowled out under 70 overs. Now, it looks like a good toss to win. But at 84/1, Holder would have had his doubts. The wicket of Javed Ahmadi sparked a collapse, with Rahkeem Cornwall running through the Afghan batting line-up. With the pendulum slightly tilting towards the West Indies, it would be a challenge for the Afghan batsmen to play the likes of Chase, Cornwall and Warrican. What was turning out to be a cold session turns out to be a good one for West Indies. After opting to bat things looked bleak as both Holder and Roach sprayed all around the pitch. The Afghan batsmen initially looked at sea but soon had their eyes set and the runs started to flow. To everyone's surprise Holder tossed the ball to the giant Rahkeem Cornwall. Cornwall started to generate uneven bounce and sharp turn as he scalped the wicket of Ibrahim Zadran, jolting the Afghanistan innings early on. As the Lunch break was nearing Jomel Warrican was introduced and he too was into the wickets column as he had the attacking Javed Ahmadi hole out to long off. Just when one thought that the session was at even stevens, Cornwall went onto get his second of the innings.
