The opposition Congress is making a serious comeback in Gujarat, even though the ruling BJP is winning most of the municipal corporations in the state in the civic body elections for which counting is being held on Wednesday (December 2).

The voting for six municipal corporations was held on November 26, while that for 31 district panchayats, 230 taluka panchayats and 56 municipalities was held on November 29.

The Patel leaders, who had launched a stir for inclusion under OBC category for reservation, had during the poll campaign told their community members to vote against the BJP, and in favour of the Congress.

Congress wins all 6 taluka panchayats in Jamnagar district. The worst defeat for BJP comes in Kalavad, home to BJP Gujarat chief RC Faldu where Congress notched 14 of the total 16 seats. BJP got only 2 seats.
