The accident occurred around 9.30 AM near Bachhrawan Railway station, about 50 km from state capital, Lucknow. As per eye witnesses, Janata Express which had a scheduled stoppage at Bachrawan railway station did not stop and derailed after hitting the dead end of the tracks. Due to the impact, as brakes were not applied, three bogeys of the train crushed and derailed. (Source: PTI)
Railways have ordered an inquiry and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed in the accident. While Rs 50,000 will be given to those injured seriously, Rs 20,000 will be given to people with minor injuries. (Source: PTI)
