Dominated completely by Christie’s and Sotheby’s, 2015 was an interesting year for art lovers. In India, records tumbled at Christie's auction held in Mumbai with an untitled work by India's foremost abstract painter Vasudeo S Gaitonde fetching a jaw-dropping Rs 29.30 crore. But the highlight of the year was Pablo Picasso’s “Les femmes d’Alger" 1955 which sold at Christie’s New York for $179,365,000, making a new world record for the most valuable work of art sold at auction.
