
Regarded as the first female superstar of Hindi cinema, veteran actress Sridevi first made her foray into films as a child artist in MA Thirumugham's devotional Thunaivan at the age of four. She later went on to star in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She played her first Bollywood adult role at the age of 13.

Mr. India: After 'Nagina' Sridevi starred in one of the biggest hits of all time, 'Mr. India' along with Anil Kapoor. In the film, Sridevi played the role of an aspiring journalist who falls in love with a man that she has never set eyes on but only heard. In 2013, Sridevi was given the Filmfare Special Award for her performances in ‘Mr India’ as well as ‘Nagina’.
Chandni: In 1989, Sridevi starred in Yash Chopra's 'Chandni' along with Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. Sridevi's performance in the film reestablished her as the leading actress of the 80s and the film was not only a blockbuster, but is said to be one of the most watched films in Indian cinema.
Sridevi's white look in the film was a huge hit and continues to be copied till today. Sridevi was nominated for a Filmfare award for her performance. 'Chandni' won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film of that year.
ChaalBaaz: Pankaj Parashar's comedy film 'ChaalBaaz' saw Sridevi play a double role. The film told the tale of separated twin sisters, living very different lives. Filmfare ranked her performance 4th in its list of '80 Iconic Performances of Hindi Cinema. The actress was also honoured with the Filmfare Best Actress Award that year.
Lamhe: Sridevi was seen in a double role in anoher Yash Chopra film - 'Lamhe' opposite Anil Kapoor. The actress received much praise for her character, who falls in love with an older man. Sridevi portrayed both the mother and the daughter in the film, which has gone down to be a classic. The actress took away the Filmfare Award for Best Actress that year.
Khuda Gawah: In 1992, Sridevi appeared opposite Amitabh Bachchan in epic love story 'Khuda Gawah'. Sridevi was again seen in a double role in the film. The film, which also had Danny Denzongpa, Akkineni Nagarjuna and Shilpa Shirodkar, picked up the Filmfare Award for Best Director while Sridevi earned a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
Gumrah: The following year, we saw yet another brilliant performance by Sridevi in Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Gumrah’ where she played the role of a singer falsely accused of smuggling drugs.
Nagina: In 1986, Sridevi played the snake woman, which can take any shape or form. It was this film that saw the actress do the 'nagin dance'. ‘Nagina’ went on to become a huge blockbuster. Film's song 'Main Teri Dushman.. main nagin tu sapera' is a famous number till date.
Judaai: Before Sridevi took a break to assume her role of being a wife and mother; she starred in ‘Judaai’ along with Anil kapoor and Urmila Matondkar. Sridevi completely owned the role of a wife who sells her husband for money. The actress received a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.
