On Friday, when protesting members of the Haryana Janhit Congress proved a bit too unruly for the Chandigarh Police personnel, they vent their fury on the cars and buses the demonstrators had travelled in.
According to estimates, over 200 vehicles were damaged by the angry cops. Next day, images of the irate policemen smashing cars and buses appeared prominently in newspapers.
The event, which may have embarrassed the Chandigarh Police, has certainly left protestors prudent.
On Tuesday, over 6,000 members of the Haryana Karamchari Mahasangh converged for a demonstration at the Rally Ground in Sector 25.
But fearing that the cops may charge again, the protestors took their vehicles off the beaten track. They parked their vehicles in nearby sectors and walked to the rally ground.
The wisest among them parked their vehicles at bus stands and parking lots and took CTU buses to reach the venue.
Not a single vehicle was seen at the rally ground in the last rally, vehicles were parked around the ground.
They had damaged many vehicles in the last rally. So we did not park our vehicles here, a protestor said. The protestors comprised members of 59 employee associations of Haryana.
Reminders of the last rally shards of broken windscreens and windowpanes were scattered across the ground.
Predictably,no violent incident took place on Tuesday.
The protestors, who restricted to speeches and sloganeering, did not give a slightest provocation to the heavy police force at the ground.
A policeman on duty said,They behaved well today.
