The city police have launched a manhunt for one Ashok Jadeja, who has been accused of duping a group of people from the Chhara community, with the amount estimated to be in several lakhs.
One Daulatsinh Chansi from Jaipur (Rajasthan),who reportedly lost Rs 22.85 lakh, has lodged a complaint of cheating against Jadeja with the Sarkhej police. According to the police,Jadeja befooled people by claiming to have the blessing of Shikoter Mataji (deity of Chharas) and promised to return them double amount if they offered money to this deity. Jadeja reportedly runs a clinic at Makarba, and the police are checking the authenticity of his medical degree.
As per the details of the case,Jadeja duped people with the help of five others Akamsinh,Munna,Jaswant,Chetansinh and Katarbhai. Many people from the Chhara community had offered money, some in lakhs, expecting to get crores in return. However, none of them ever got any return, after which a group of agitated devotees pelted stones at Jadeja’s house at Makarba on Wednesday.
S S Trivedi,Superintendent of Police,Ahmedabad (Rural),said,The doctor cheated the people of this community,as only a few of them are educated. We suspect a chain of agents is involved in this case,as the complainant is a resident of Jaipur. The agents must be working to lure people of this community from other states.
Inspector J P Rawal, who is investigating the case, said,The man claims to be a doctor. He himself belongs to the Chhara community. He added that the validity of his medical degree could be confirmed only after his arrest.
