BSP MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife Jagriti Singh were arrested on Tuesday evening after their 35-year-old domestic help,Rakhi,was found dead with grievous injury marks in their bungalow in New Delhis South Avenue. Police charged Jagriti with murder and Dhananjay with destroying evidence.
A 17-year-old boy,who works at the MPs residence,is an eyewitness. On Tuesday,he told police that Jagriti kept them under surveillance and tortured them daily. While Jagriti claimed that Rakhi slipped off the terrace and injured herself,the 17-year-old help told police that for three days,Rakhi was mercilessly assaulted with iron rods and antelopes horns.
Rakhis body had brutal injuries on the chest,back,hands,legs and burn injuries on her stomach,police said. She reportedly died on Monday morning.
Jagriti allegedly used 20 cameras to keep her house under surveillance. She allegedly got one camera installed in the bathroom. Police said she viewed the CCTV feed on her phone to keep a check on the helps.
After Rakhis death,Jagriti informed her husband Dhananjay,who reached Delhi on Monday morning. The body was kept in the house for over 12 hours,police said. According to police,Dhananjay could not come up with a valid explanation regarding the delay in reporting the matter.
When Jagriti was questioned about the burn injuries on Rakhis body and those on the 17-year-old help,she told police that she lost her cool and assaulted them after catching them in a compromising position. Police said Rakhi was from Bangladesh and got a job in the MPs house through a placement agency in Chirag Dilli.
According to police,Jagriti asked Rakhi to clean the terrace on November 1. Rakhi slipped and fell on the terrace,sustaining a minor injury,police said. She then went to her quarter to rest. When Jagriti returned home,she saw Rakhi resting and assaulted her,police alleged.
Jagriti,who works as a senior resident in the Dental Surgery department at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,was arrested on charges of murder,attempt to murder and under the Juvenile Justice Act for torturing the 17-year-old. Dhananjay was arrested on charges of abetment to crime and destruction of evidence.
