The state unit of the Congress on Thursday suspended party leader Afsar-U-Ahmed for anti-party activities.

The state unit of the Congress on Thursday suspended party leader Afsar-U-Ahmed for anti-party activities.

Ahmed has been accused of trying to defame party MP Jagdambika Pal. He has been served showcause notice and asked to submit his reply within 10 days.

Former Congress MLA from Menhdawal in Sant Kabir Nagar,Ahmed was a frontrunner for getting the party ticket to contest from Domariaganj Assembly Seat in the upcoming by-election. The party, however, nominated Ashok Singh to contest the seat, which fell vacant after the death of BSP MLA Taufiq Ahmed earlier this year.

Jagdambika Pal,who represents Domariyaganj Lok Sabha seat, reportedly played a crucial role in giving the ticket to Singh.

Following this,Ahmed allegedly started making public statement against Pal saying that he belongs to RSS,sources in the party said.

“As some of these reports were found to be true, disciplinary committee chairman of the party,R K Dwivedi, ordered Ahmed’s,” said UPCC spokesperson Dwijendra Tripathi.
