With Assembly elections in Delhi due in November and divisions running deep in the state unit, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari met senior leaders on Friday to try and resolve differences. A second meeting was scheduled for Friday night after leaders spoke out against the style of functioning of state unit president Vijay Goel.
BJP sources said leaders who met Gadkari and Navjot Singh Sidhu included Goel,V K Malhotra,Harsh Vardhan,Vijender Gupta,Arti Mehra,Pravesh Verma,Vijay Jolly and Vijay Sharma. Gadkari has been asked by the party to oversee preparations for the polls in Delhi.
Gadkari was told about differences between senior leaders and Vijay Goel. He was given reports about it. Since this infighting can seriously hurt party chances in the polls,Gadkari called the leaders and asked them to ensure better coordination, a party source said.
The leaders, the source said, told Gadkari that they had been repeatedly humiliated.
One of them told Gadkari that they had never felt so humiliated. They were being invited to party meetings only through messages or calls from Goels office, the source said.
Almost all leaders complained to Gadkari that district presidents were working against sitting party MLAs. They also said their feedback was never sought before the launch of the vision document. The vision document kept the spotlight only on one person without giving credit to other party workers or involving senior leaders in the process, one of the leaders said.
A party source said Gadkari asked the leaders to work together while making it clear that the BJP central leadership had taken note of the infighting in the Delhi unit.
When his comments were sought on what transpired at the meeting,Goel said,The meeting was about the electricity tariff rally which we have planned for August 11. Everyone has been directed to work for its success.
