Cops nab realty agent for hoax call

The Crime Branch has arrested a real estate agent who allegedly made a hoax call about a bomb at the Scindia House building

The Crime Branch has arrested a real estate agent who allegedly made a hoax call about a bomb at the Scindia House building at Ballard Estate,which houses the Income Tax Debt Recovery (IDTR) department. The man wanted to delay a hearing that was to take place on July 26,police said.

The call was received on July 26 after which MRA Marg police was alerted and officials as well as the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad rushed to the building. The building was evacuated and after a search,it was declared clear.

MRA Marg police and Crime Branch initiated a parallel probe. The call was made from a cellphone and the location of the SIM card was traced to Raghuleela Mall in Kandivali. “Some mall employees had noticed a man talking on his cellphone in a furtive manner. He was also seen taking the SIM card out,breaking it and throwing it away. We eventually identified Ashok Tanna (29) as a suspect,” said a Crime Branch officer.

Cops said Tanna confessed to having made the call. ens
