Six firms have applied for licence to be part of the call taxi scheme of the state transport department, especially for black-and-yellow cabs. State transport officials earlier feared the scheme would not get enough response, with only one applicant till Monday. On Tuesday, the deadline, the number rose to six.
The applicants are Ansh Synergies,Tri-Star Solutions Pvt Ltd,Taximen Services Ltd,Trump Cab Pvt Ltd and Livemind Solutions. They are either into CNG retrofitting or the travel business.
Under the scheme, they have to tie up with at least 1,500 taxis and need at least 500 to begin with. The operator would have to set up a call centre to coordinate with drivers. Its just like the fleet taxi scheme under which taxis need to have GPS devices to coordinate with the call centre, said a transport official.
The taxis,in return, would give space for advertisement and help generate revenue for the call centre operator. The operators are to help drivers upgrade their taxis. Commuters can book a cab as one does for fleet taxis. It is also likely to fill a vacuum as limited cool cabs are available in spite of new operators entering the segment. The transport department is also planning to give these taxis permission to be used as cool cabs as per demand of commuters, said a transport official.
The applications would be scrutinised by an RTO or deputy RTO rank officer and they would visit the offices to verify claims made in the application, the officer added. The scheme would take around two months for implementation.
