Back to work

You may not see him on-screen very often but Dino Morea makes news every three months or so,each time linked to different woman.

You may not see him on-screen very often but Dino Morea makes news every three months or so,each time linked to different woman. If one goes by that,Morea is probably one of the most evasive and elusive playboy in Bollywood. Evasive and elusive indeed,we chase him for four days before we finally meet. Girls like that,it seems.

Next thing,I’m seated in the garden at Casa Morea in Bandra. The lush greenery interspersed with the wooden-cane garden furniture and wrought-iron shades bear a distinct whiff of Goa’s breeze. The overcast sky and the 36-year-old actor -—dressed in a white polo tee and outlandish cargo pants — only add to the mood.

We begin where we’re ought to – his personal life but are greeted with a strict “No comment” followed by a smile. “Since I’m so often in the news for one controversy or the other,I’ve fixed my stance,” he explains, attempting vagueness. Persistence,an occupational hazard, pays a bit,and he says,“Sometimes what you hear is true and sometimes it couldn’t get more unreal. But often, all it does is add strain to the existing relationships. There have been times in the past when I may have read something about someone I was dating and found myself wondering if that was true. It’s natural and has happened the other way round too. But for now,all I can say is that I have no ‘soul mate’ in my life right now.”

Good,very good.

Morea started with a smash when his Raaz opposite estranged girlfriend Bipasha Basu got him into the limelight. Ever since, though he’s been around, doing movies off and on,the industry has more or less overlooked him. But this doesn’t bother the actor as he explains his disposition: “It’s like a snake-and-ladder game. I started out well but then rolled down to the bottom. But I never forget that once you’re at the bottom, the only way to go is up. My time will come soon and actors like Saif Ali Khan, who returned with a bang nearly a year later, give me hope.”

Morea has recently shot for a guest appearance in

Yash Raj Films’ Pyaar Impossible and awaits the release of his next,Acid Factory. Both the films,he says, will see him in interesting shades of grey. “It’s cool to be naughty,” he smiles wickedly.

He runs his fingers through his long gelled hair as he intently listens every time he’s spoken to. He breaks into a wide smile when we talk about his successful restaurant business with brother Nicolo —Crepe Station. “We’re franchising out and 2009 will see 11 new outlets across Delhi,Surat,Baroda and other cities. And then there’s my merchandising business — Cool Maal, which keeps me busy,” he asserts, referring to the celebrity merchandising company he launched in March with cricketer Yuvraj Singh as his first client. “I have some big plans up my sleeve this July. And if the two movies I’m in talks for work out, you’ll see me more often,” he promises.
