APMCC to go on hunger strike in support of their demands

Community feels only way to make government listen is to resort to indefinite hunger strike.

A body of Kashmiri Pandits today threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if their demands, including dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visits to Shardha-Peeth temple in PoK and probe into encroachment of a temple land in the Valley, were not met.

“The community feels the only way to make this government listen is to resort to indefinite hunger strike,” All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) General Secretary Arun Kandroo told reporters here.

He said APMCC chairman Vinod Pandit would resort to indefinite hunger strike from October seven if their demands were not met.

The APMCC has also sent a letter to President Pratibha Patil seeking a time-frame for initiating the process for resolution of the minority community’s demands.

The demands of the community include dialogue with Pakistan for facilitating visits to Shardha-Peeth temple, probe into encroachment of a temple land in the Valley, passing of the pending Temple and Shrine Bill in the Legislative Assembly and one-time compensation for over-aged migrant youth.

The other demands are special employment package for non-migrant Hindus of Kashmir Valley and establishment of Sharda Peeth University.
