The civic body has asked party plots to provide 50 % parking space to avoid closure
Party plot owners face the prospect of closure for failing to convert 50 per cent of the area into parking space. But they have pointed out that the civic body itself is not in a position to meet this requirement in its own plots.
They also suspect the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporations (AMC) insistence on providing half the space for parking is aimed at finding a way for builders coming up with the schemes behind the green belt area.
Most party plots are on the green belt and the building schemes have come up without a proper access to them. If the AMC has its way with the 50-50 formula,it will give access to these schemes, said Ronak Patel of Ashirwad Party Plot in Naranpura.
According to Patel, almost all the 350 big and small party plots have been served notices, asking them to either provide for 50 per cent of the plot land for parking or pack up.
Other plots may find a way out,but those falling on the green belt will find it difficult to come out unscathed as the AMC bosses are going to oblige the builders who have schemes behind these party plots and who want access to their schemes from the roadside, he said.
The AMC has served the highest number of notices to party plots situated in the west zone and the new west zone where nearly 300 party plots are on the green belt land. Most of them have no provision for parking.
Anil Patel of Mangaltirth Party plot in Naranpura said the authorities should think about the middle class people using these plots.
People with a budget of Rs 60,000 or so find them affordable and if these plots are shut down, they will be put to great hardship, he said, adding that a practical approach is required on General Development Control Regulations (GDCR).
As of now, there is a ban on passing plans for building on green belt land and the state government is expected to take a decision on this.
Asit Vora, chairman of the civic standing committee said the AMC was merely implementing the rules prescribed in GDCR.
When asked about the charge of the AMC obliging builders,he said it could be plot owners personal opinion, but it was the Gujarat High Courts decision to regulate the plots.
