The Election Commission (EC) of India has decided to accept PAN cards,driving licenses and Aadhar letters issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) as proof of date of birth that an applicant can submit for registration as an elector or correction in the electoral roll,Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said on Wednesday.
Revised list of documents to be accepted as proof of date of birth included birth certificate issued by municipal authorities,or district office of the registrar of births and deaths or baptism certificate or birth certificate from the government or recognized school last attended by the applicant or any recognised educational institution, he said.
Also,if a person has passed Class X or has higher qualifications,he can give a copy of Classes V,VIII or X marksheets,provided these contain his date of birth. Other such documents included a declaration made by either of his parents,if the person is not educated up to Class X.
In other cases,where parental declaration is given as proof of age,the applicant will have to be present himself for verification before either booth level officers,assistant electoral registration officers or electoral registration officers. Documentary proof of age will be required only in those cases,where age of the applicant is between 18 and 21 years. In all other cases,declaration of the age by the applicant will suffice.
