Elections in India 2023 Highlights: With 2 days to go for the first phase of the Chhattisgarh Assembly polls, Congress, in the manifesto it released today, aimed to one-up the BJP by promising a caste census if it returned to power. Farm loans waiver among other sops for farmers, free electricity to upto 200 units and a cooking gas subsidy were among other promises made by the party. Meanwhile, PM Modi addressed a rally in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh's Seoni, where he reiterated the extension the free ration (food grains under the public distribution system) scheme for five years beyond December. He also hit out at the Congress saying, "for Congress, no one is bigger than its own family." After this, the PM will address a gathering in Khandwa. Addressing a rally at Ratlam ahead of November 17 assembly elections, Modi had said: "The ongoing competition between two Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh, tearing each other’s clothes, is just a trailer. The real picture of the Congress will be seen after the BJP’s victory on December 3." The BJP has been highlighting Congress infighting after a video surfaced in which Kamal Nath is seen telling disgruntled party workers seeking tickets for their leaders to tear the clothes of ex-CM Digvijay Singh and his son Jaivardhan Singh. The Congress has dismissed the BJP’s charges, maintaining that the relations between the two former CMs have always been warm and cordial and that they have had a friendship like “Jai and Veeru” from the 1975 Hindi film classic Sholay.
