Kannauj Elections Result 2024: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has won the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, defeating his nearest rival and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Subrata Pathak by a margin of 1,70,000 votes.
According to the Election Commission data, Yadav secured 6,42,292 votes, while Pathak managed to garner 4,71,370 votes. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, Imran Bin Zafar, secured 81,639 votes. Yadav’s victory marks a significant win for the SP in the Kannauj constituency.
The Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency, a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party (SP) since 1998, is set to witness a high-stakes battle in the 2024 general elections.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh were held in all seven phases. In Kannauj, elections were held in Phase 4 on May 13, 2024. The voter turnout for the constituency was recorded at 60.86% in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll, SP chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is placed strongly in the contest against sitting BJP MP Subrat Pathak.
Akhilesh Yadav, who represented Kannauj from 2000 to 2012 before stepping down to become Chief Minister, is poised to reclaim the seat that has a significant family history. His father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, held the constituency three times.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Kannauj seat experienced a notable shift when the BJP’s Subrat Pathak won by a narrow margin of 12,000 votes, defeating Dimple Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife. Dimple Yadav had won the seat unopposed in a by-poll and secured re-election in 2014.
