You are listening to the Expresso Entertainment Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Hollywood brought to you by The Indian Express.
"Let's begin with the latest news. On Wednesday, Dec 28th, Marvel Entertainment tweeted a 25-second video confirming the debut of a Stan Lee documentary that coincides with the late comic creator’s 100th birthday.

In the video, a few of Stan Lee’s minor roles and guest appearances in cinema are seen. The joyous montage ends with a zoom-out that gradually shows an image of the multi-talented inventor. Marvel Entertainment captioned it as, “100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee. Stan Lee, an Original documentary, is streaming 2023 on @DisneyPlus.”

Lee maintained his relationship with Marvel even after leaving the company in the 1990s by serving as an executive producer on Marvel-produced films and cameo appearances."
"Director James Cameron, in an interview with Esquire Middle East, revealed he edited out 10 minutes of Avatar: The Way of Water as he wanted to avoid glorifying gun violence.

He said, “I wanted to get rid of some of the ugliness, to find a balance between light and dark. You have to have conflict, of course. Violence and action are the same things, depending on how you look at them. This is the dilemma of every action filmmaker, and I’m known as an action filmmaker.”
He also reflected on his previous films and said he wouldn’t make those movies in the current political climate.

Avatar: The Way of Water has turned out to be a huge box-office success. "
"The sequel to 2009 hit Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water is the first choice of moviegoers across the world.
After a huge turnout of Rs 12 crore in its second week in the country, the film recorded double-digit earnings in the range of Rs 9-11 crore on Tuesday, Dec 27th.

Worldwide, the film is on its way to crossing the 1-billion-dollar mark, inching closer to this year’s two smash hits, Top Gun Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion.
With the holiday season still on, it looks like a cakewalk for the sci-fi thriller to topple Avengers: Endgame (Rs 373.22 crore) and become the highest-grossing Hollywood film in India."
"In other news, Jo Mersa Marley, the grandson of famed Reggae musician Bob Marley, died recently, as per a report by US-based news portal, The New York Post.
Jo, who was also a reggae musician of Jamaican-American heritage, was found unresponsive in a vehicle, The NY Post cited a tweet by journalist Abka Fitz-Henley.

The reason for the death of the “Hurting Inside” singer was confirmed to be an asthma attack, The NY Post cited an Instagram post of South Florida radio station, WZPP.

The “Burn It Down” singer spent much of his early life in Jamaica. Subsequently, he moved to Florida to attend high school. He later attended Miami Dade College to study studio engineering."
"Glass Onion director Rian Johnson while opening up about the creation of the mystery-thriller flick claimed that he lamented the film having Knives Out in its title.

According to Deadline, a US-based news outlet, Johnson made a concerted effort to create a follow-up to his 2019 hit Knives Out that would be its independent tale, just called Glass Onion, with investigator Benoit Blanc appearing in both movies.

Johnson added, “I get it, and I want everyone who liked the first movie to know this is next in the series, but also, the whole appeal to me is it’s a new novel off the shelf every time. But there’s a gravity of a thousand suns toward serialized storytelling.”"
"Meanwhile, MUBI has announced that the acclaimed English drama Aftersun will start streaming on MUBI India on January 6. Directed by debutante Scottish filmmaker Charlotte Wells, the film features Paul Mescal, child actor Frankie Corio, and Celia Rowlson-Hall.
Set in the late 1990s, Aftersun follows an 11-year-old Scottish girl called Sophie, who visits Turkey for the summer with her loving but troubled father.

Aftersun premiered at the International Critics’ Week during the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned a jury prize. It was also screened in India under the World Cinema section at the recently concluded International Film Festival of Kerala.
"
"Spy action comedy Operation Fortune, starring Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, and Hugh Grant, is set to arrive in Indian theatres on January 6. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the film centres on special agent Orson Fortune and his team of operatives as they recruit one of Hollywood’s biggest movie stars to help them on an undercover mission.

PVR Pictures posted on Twitter alongside a new poster of the movie, with the caption, “Espionage never looked so good. Coming to a cinema near you on January 6,”

Actors Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, and Bugzy Malone round out the cast. Ivan Atkinson, Marn Davies, and Ritchie have penned the screenplay. Operation Fortune is produced by Miramax."
"Lastly, Oscar-winning music composer Hans Zimmer has lent his genius to a YouTube video. The project is not a sign of Zimmer’s falling fortunes in Hollywood, but a passion project for the composer, who is a climate change activist in his own right.

He composed an original song titled Antarctica or Bust for an expedition video made by popular YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson aka MrBeast. With about 125 million subscribers, MrBeast is one of the most subscribed content creators on YouTube.

According to reports, MrBeast approached Hans Zimmer who readily agreed to collaborate, and came up with the song in just 12 days.

Hans Zimmer has scored music for many Hollywood blockbusters including Dune, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight, and Interstellar to name a few."
