You are listening to the Expresso Health Update. Here is the latest news from the world of Health brought to you by The Indian Express.
"Let us begin today’s bulletin with news on Anshula Kapoor who likes to keep it real on Instagram. She keeps her followers updated about many things — from weight loss to favourite meals, and everything in-between, including her hesitance to wear a bikini. In a similar vein, the sister of actor Arjun Kapoor recently took to the social media platform to share her favourite workout routine as part of an ask-me-anything (AMA) session.
She wrote in reply, ‘lat pull-downs, of all kinds, are my favourite’. Accompanying her answer was a video of her performing the exercise in the gym.

Lat pull-downs help activate the muscles of the middle back as well as the biceps."
"It needs no retelling that many Bollywood celebrities swear by yoga when it comes to their holistic well-being. Ananya Panday does, too, and she recently set massive fitness goals as she shared a selfie after acing 108 Surya Namaskars or Sun Salutations. Taking to Instagram, the Liger actor shared the picture — in which she flaunted her toned midriff — that she captioned: “Post 108 Surya namaskars.”

Nikhil Kapur, co-founder and director, Atmantan Wellness Centre told indianexpress.com, “The Surya Namaskar is known to be a complete workout, as it exercises/stretches us from the top of our head, even our eyes, all the way down to the toes!”"
"Many men believe that skincare is just for women and do not need not pay any extra attention to their skin to keep it healthy. Dermatologist Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta said, “Men must take care of their skin and follow a skincare regime to keep their skin fresh, rejuvenated, hydrated, and healthy throughout the years,”
However, despite common beliefs, your skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few simple steps, you can get the skin of your dreams.
1. Use a cleanser ideal for your skin type twice a day “to get rid of dust, dirt, pollution and bacteria
2. apply an ideal moisturiser based on your skin type for proper hydration and nourishment. "
"Stress has become a part and parcel of most people’s lives, so much so that many people do not even realise it and consider it normal. However, it’s crucial to note that stress can have a severe impact on mental and physical well-being. Ritika Aggarwal Mehta, a consultant psychologist, told indianexpress.com, “When stress levels remain elevated over a long period, it can put your physical and mental wellbeing at risk,”
She advised, “Whenever you find yourself getting stressed, quickly bring your mental focus to the tip of your nose and take 7 deep breaths. Feel the sensation of the air moving in and out of your nasal passages. Experience it as deeply as you can,”
"
"Good food equals a good mood! So when Karisma Kapoor, sister Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar caught up for a ‘Maharashtrian meal day’, it was bound to be a day full of feast and fun.

Karisma took to Instagram to share a picture that she captioned, “Maharashtrian meal day. Yum yum.”
Avantii Deshpaande, gut health expert and nutritionist said, “This plate has all the food groups, like vegetables, protein, complex carbs, and good fats, and also a drink to improve digestion. Cut salad on the side would increase the vegetable portion, while some more jhunka, or a glass of buttermilk, or a bowl of curd could increase the protein portion,”
"
"Meanwhile, Nutritionist Bhakti Kapoor said “Cashews have always got a bad reputation,” adding that this extremely nutritious nut “deserves a little more street cred when it comes to your health.” According to WebMD, Cashews are rich in protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants such as polyphenols, cashews offer a variety of noteworthy health benefits.
“Cashews have previously received a bad rep for including saturated fat, but this may not be as problematic as the saturated label suggests. Much of the fat in cashews come from stearic acids, which experts believe have a neutral impact on blood cholesterol. Research suggests that people who eat a small serving of cashews every day see a minor reduction in LDL ‘bad’ cholesterol,” the website added."
"Moving on, Kajal Aggarwal, who recently gave birth to a baby boy, is busy preparing for her upcoming release, Indian 2. In an Instagram video shared by the actor, she was seen acing ‘Kalaripayattu’, an ancient Indian martial art form that originated in Kerala and can be traced back to the third century BC.

Kajal was seen performing some attack and defence moves with bare hands, wooden weapons, and a metal shield. The actor wrote, “Grateful to have been learning this intermittently but wholeheartedly over 3 years!”
She added that various other art forms, such as “Shaolin, Kung Fu and consequently Karate and Taekwondo, amongst others have found their origin from this traditional practice.”
"
"Lastly, the term “weekend warriors” is no myth, as even if the workouts are only crammed in on the weekend the health benefits can still be achieved.
There are two main types of exercise everyone should aim to do.

The first is cardio, which of course refers to aerobic exercises – such as walking, jogging or cycling. Cardio is great for preventing and even treating a number of chronic health conditions, such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The second is resistance exercise, which involves any activity where the body or a particular muscle group is required to act against an external force – such as weightlifting or pilates."
