A State Department spokesperson had earlier rejected the comments made by a few senators regarding Trump’s peace plan to end the Ukraine war. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Saturday said that the 28-point peace proposal to end the war in Ukraine has been authored by Washington with inputs from the Russian counterparts, despite what a handful of senators said that the peace plan which President Donald Trump is pushing Kyiv to accept is a “wish list” of Moscow and not the actual US plan, Reuters reported.
Clearing the air in a post on X, Rubio wrote, “It is offered as a strong framework for ongoing negotiations. It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine.”
A State Department spokesperson had earlier rejected the comments made by a few senators regarding Trump’s peace plan to end the Ukraine war, and called it “blatantly false”. The 28-point peace plan was crafted by the Trump administration with involvement of the Kremlin but Ukraine wasn’t part of the discussion.
The peace proposal was authored by the U.S.

Trump’s peace plan gives consent to many demands made by the Russian counterparts, including Ukraine giving up large pieces of territory to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has categorically rejected on dozens of occasions. The US president wants Kyiv to accept Washington’s drafted plan ahead of Thanksgiving.
However, Republican Senator Mike Rounds earlier on Saturday said that he and other senators received a call from Secretary Rubio who said that it was a proposal that the US had received and passed on to Ukraine. “He made it very clear to us that we are the recipients of a proposal that was delivered to one of our representatives. It is not our recommendation, it is not our plan,” Rounds said.
Meanwhile, State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott in a post on X denied the claims made by senators and clarified that the peace plan has been authored by the United States, with input from both the Russians and Ukrainians.
