US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that he may send long-range Tomahawk missiles that could be used by Ukraine if Moscow doesn’t settle the war soon, suggesting that the US president could be ready to exert pressure on Russia using a key weapon system, AP reported. Trump, while aboard Air Force One as he flew to Israel and Egypt, said that he discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the latter’s request for weaponry, including Tomahawks. The two leaders spoke over the phone on Saturday and Sunday, Reuters reported. “I might say, ’Look: if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks. The Tomahawk is an incredible weapon, a very offensive weapon. And honestly, Russia does not need that,” Trump told reporters on Sunday. ⚡️ Sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine will be ‘new step of AGGRESSION’ — TrumpSays he may tell Putin that if conflict isn’t settled, he’ll GIVE Ukraine Tomahawk missiles‘I might have to speak to Russia’ pic.twitter.com/ID5NQDgoia— RT (@RT_com) October 12, 2025 The US president added, “I might tell them that if the war is not settled that we may very well. We may not, but we may do it. I think it’s appropriate to bring up.” Tomahawk missiles can strike deep inside Russia, including Moscow as it has a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles). Russia has cautioned against Ukraine being provided with Tomahawk missiles, as Trump on Sunday said that the missiles would act as "a new step of aggression" if introduced in the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump’s suggestion came after Russia launched a massive strike against Ukraine’s power grid overnight, with an aim to destroy Ukrainian energy infrastructure ahead of winter. Moscow has expressed “extreme concern” over America providing Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. Detailing the plan, Trump said that the United States would not directly provide Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine but rather provide them to NATO, which can then offer them to Ukrainians. Zelenskyy had earlier said that if Washington provides it with the Tomahawk missiles, Kyiv would not use them against civilians in Russia but they will be used only for military purposes.
