In an incident north of Pittsburgh, a bus carrying a junior high football team to a game crashed on Saturday in Pennsylvania, sending at least 21 people to hospital out of the 28 who were on board the bus, officials have said.
The students belonged to Aliquippa Junior High and they were headed for a match in nearby Gibsonia when the bus crash took place.
There were 25 students and three adults on board the bus. The bus crashed in Economy Borough, about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, the Associated Press reported.
According to Economy Borough Police Chief Michael O’Brien, the medical status of the 21 people taken to hospital wasn’t immediately available.
Police chief O’Brien added that it appears the bus turned on its side when the crash took place but came back upright as the students were evacuating the vehicle.
O’Brien added that the crash took place at a tough spot on the road. “It’s on a bad bend. It’s being investigated now to determine what happened,” the police said.
As per a Facebook page for Aliquippa Junior High football team, all the players were being evaluated after the crash as it asked for “a thought or prayer for each player or coach that was traveling this morning,” reported AP.
