An Indian-origin motel manager in Pennsylvania’s Pittsburgh, US, was shot dead on Friday after stepping outside to check on a commotion in the parking lot of a Robinson Township motel, CBS News reported. According to the Allegheny County Police Department, the police received reports of a shooting at the Pittsburgh Motel on Steubenville Pike around 1 pm local time on Friday. Investigators said the suspect, 38-year-old Stanley West, allegedly shot his female companion after an argument in the parking lot. When 50-year-old Rakesh Ehagaban stepped out to see what was happening and reportedly asked, “Are you alright?”, West shot him in the head at close range, killing him instantly. A woman injured in the shooting managed to flee to a nearby business and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. Manhunt and shootout in East Hills Later in the afternoon, detectives tracked a U-Haul van driven by West to Wilner Drive in Pittsburgh’s East Hills. When officers approached, West allegedly opened fire, striking a Pittsburgh detective in the leg, according to CBS News. Police returned fire, hitting the suspect several times. Both West and the injured officer were taken to hospital – the officer’s injuries were not life-threatening while West was reported to be in critical condition, said Allegheny County Superintendent Christopher Kearns. Because police were involved in the exchange of gunfire, the Pennsylvania State Police are leading an independent investigation into the incident. His colleague, Lemel Howell, told KDKA-TV that he heard gunfire before discovering his boss lying on the ground. “I just came from the store and I laid down, I was playing with my daughter, and I just heard all these loud shots. I looked out the door and I seen my boss dead on the ground,” Howell said. Police said Stanley West faces multiple charges, including homicide, in connection with the shooting.
