Vat Savitri Vrat 2025 Date, Vrat Katha, Pooja Vidhi: Vat Savitri Vrat, an auspicious fasting festival, is primarily marked by married Hindu women in Maharashtra and North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Bihar. Although both regions celebrate it on different dates in the Purnimant and Amant calendars.
According to the Purnimant calendar, it will be observed on Jyeshtha Amavasya, falling on Monday, May 26, with the Amavasya period starting at 12:11 PM and ending on May 27 at 08:31 AM.
Conversely, in the Amant calendar, the festival is celebrated on Jyeshtha Purnima, also referred to as Vat Purnima Vrat, occurring on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, according to Drik Panchang.
This 15-day difference in observance between regions such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, and the southern states versus North India results in women in these areas celebrating the festival at distinct times, although the mythological story and significance remain the same.
On this auspicious occasion, women worship the vat vriksh, which is the banyan tree, symbolising health and longevity for their husbands, engage in a strict fast and recite the mythological story of Savitri and Satyavan.
According to Hindu mythology, Savitri, through her intense devotion to Yama, the god of death, compelled him to restore her husband Satyavan’s life, which is why, through the observance of Vat Savitri Vrat, women seek the well-being and long life of their spouses.
