Somvati Amavasya 2025: On Monday, May 26, thousands of devotees from all over the country gathered at Haridwar ghats early this morning to take a sacred bath in the Ganga to perform sacred rituals of Somvati Amavasya, ANI reported.
Somvati Amavasya holds significance in Hindu tradition, during which devotees engage in bathing, charitable acts, ancestral rituals, fasting, and worship of Lord Shiva.
According to the scriptures, performing these rituals is deemed especially significant on this day, as it is believed to bestow good luck and prosperity, in addition to leading to salvation.
On this day, offering tarpan to our ancestors is believed to bring peace to their souls and alleviate Pitra Dosh. Coincidentally, this year, married women are observing a fast, known as Vat Savitri Vrat, which is intended to ensure the long life and good fortune of their husbands.
Somvati Amavasya, the full moon falling on Mondays, is marked to honour ancestors, and this year, it is being marked on Monday, May 26, 2025, and will begin from 12:11 pm on May 26 to 8:31 am on May 27, as stated in Drik Panchang.
