A government primary school in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district has turned a classroom into a swimming pool. A viral video on X that shows students in their school uniforms trying to swim and playing around in the classroom has divided the internet.
The X user who posted the video said the school authorities wanted to ensure students do attend classes during the harvest season and amid heatwaves. “In UP’s Kannauj, a classroom at a government primary school was turned into a swimming pool for students. As per school authorities, this was done to maintain attendance of students who were missing on school due to crop harvest and heat wave,” he wrote.

The video has got over 28,000 views and prompted mixed reactions. While a section of X users appreciated the move by the school authorities, others called it a “joke”. A user wrote, “These angel need a swimming pool. Look how happy they are.” Another commented, “Swimming should be made mandatory in school. Good initiative.”
“Education has been turned into a joke,” a third user commented. “Kids are allowed to play in dirty water and is never meant for swimming. Who will be responsible for the affections [infections] they get with wet clothes and dirty water?” another user argued.
In January, a school in Uttar Pradesh was criticised for allowing students to dance to a Bollywood song on Republic Day.
