A man in Uttar Pradesh is lighting up social media feeds with his unique dance to celebrate his release from jail. The man was released after serving additional time after he failed to pay a fine.

A report in NDTV said the incident occurred in Kannauj. In the now-viral video, the man can be seen freestyling dance moves outside the jail building, wearing a colourful T-shirt and light blue jeans. The video, posted on X by @News1IndiaTweet, also captures a few jail officials standing beside him and watching him perform.

The caption of the X post in Hindi translates to, “As soon as the prisoner was released from the district jail, he danced at the gate, and the jail staff applauded him. He was in jail for 9 months. He could not be released due to his inability to pay the fine of Rs 1,000.”

The video prompted reactions from various users, garnering more than 37,000 views. A user wrote, “It’s surprising! Rapists and murderers get released in 3 months and the one who doesn’t pay the fine of Rs 1000 remains in jail for 9 months.” Another user commented, “9 months imprisonment for just Rs 1000? If this person is not a criminal and went to jail for violating some rule, it is a matter of great shame.”

“Those who ran away with crores of rupees or committed scams are roaming free and a poor man was kept in jail for 9 months. The common man is just being made a fool by the law,” a third user said.
