They say necessity sparks innovation, but this latest “hack” has left the Internet stunned. In a viral clip, a JCB excavator – yes, the same machine usually seen digging up roads – is being used as a giant ladle to stir an enormous pot of dal makhni. The popular construction vehicle, often a subject of memes, has returned to social media feeds, only this time as an unlikely kitchen utensil.
The video, originally posted on July 7 by Instagram user Nirajad Nirajad, shows the machine’s bright yellow arm dipping into a mammoth vessel of lentils, swirling the creamy mixture as though it were cement. The bizarre sight quickly went viral, drawing equal parts laughter, disbelief and disgust.
While nobody knows exactly where or when it was filmed, the clip has provoked a storm of reactions. Some viewers were amused by the “pathbreaking innovation,” while others raised red flags over hygiene and safety. “Bas ab road roller se roti sekni baaki hai,” (All that is left is making roti with a road roller), one user said. Another wrote, “I bet stones and machine oil must taste good.”
A third person commented, “ab to America bhi kuch nahi kahega.” (Now, America won’t say anything). A fourth individual said, “This is no dal makhni, this is ghutma alloo and for all those who is concerned about hygine, these jcb’s are brand new not even used once to excavate.”
Alongside the jokes came serious calls for action. Social media users tagged the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), urging it to step in and investigate what they saw as a blatant violation of food safety norms.
