Train rides are often the perfect time for catching up on calls, but indulging sitting near the window has its dangers. A video shared by an RPF officer on Instagram demonstrates this–though in this case, the officer himself grabs a woman’s phone to raise awareness about mobile theft.
The post’s caption, translated, explains: “To teach the female passenger not to be careless, the officer delivered a clear message. All forces are there for safety, but we must also remain vigilant and alert, only then can any untoward incident be avoided.”
In the clip, a woman is seen sitting in a sleeper class carriage, her hand resting on the windowsill as she talks on the phone. Suddenly, an RPF officer approaches and snatches the device from her, leaving her startled. He then hands the phone back, while warning her about the risks of using a phone without paying attention to one’s surroundings. As he returns it, he remarks, “Aise he mobile cheen leta hai” (This is how phones get snatched).
The video quickly went viral, racking up over three million views. Social media users had a lot to say in the comments. One wrote, “Achha hua police original hai” (Good he’s a real policeman). Another said, “Aunty ko heart attack aate aate ruk gaya” (The aunty almost had a heart attack).
A third user wrote, “Born to be choor but due to pressure became police” (Born to be a thief but became a cop due to circumstances). And another user commented, “Why practice people have rights to use their phones in every where tum kaam shi kro yeh chori aor lootpath band ho” (People have the right to use their phones everywhere, but do your job properly and stop theft and robbery).
