A verbal tiff erupted between a passenger and a Uber cab driver in Bengaluru over the malfunctioning of the AC. Sharing the video on X, the man claimed that the driver, who initially spoke to him in Hindi, lost his temper and later insisted that he speak in Kannada.
The video begins with the man saying that everything was fine during the journey until the cab driver suddenly got angry and said there is no AC when the man asks him to switch it on. The Uber driver says in Hindi that there’s some problem with the AC.
Finally when the driver doesn’t respond, the passenger says, “Sir, if you don’t want to take me, you can drop me”.
In the second video, the man can be heard saying, “Small thing and you’re getting angry. You’re getting charged up. I didn’t wanted (sic) to go in Indica.”
The Uber driver can be seen speaking in Kannada and says, “Only Kannada.”
Sharing the video, the man wrote, “Since everyone is forming an opinion let me share the context here- 16sec video is 1st followed by the other video. I denied to sit in his friend’s Indica as it didn’t have AC and was filthy. Then I sat in his car n he talked to me in Hindi only.”
“But d moment I asked him to Turn on the AC he got charged up. Listen to him responding in Hindi AC nahi hai. It’s not abt language here it’s about arrogant n irresponsible person using Kannada language as smokescreen to continue scamming gullible people who travel to BLR for work,” he added.
The man shared the cab’s number in another post and tagged Uber support.
Many users commented on the video sharing similar experiences. A user wrote about his experience in Kalaburagi city. “I also face the same problem but not in cab but in hospital he ask me why you came to Karnataka if you don’t know Kannada it happened in Karnataka.” Another user commented, “Couple of such drivers I met in NCR & Bangalore, was taught a nice lesson from me. Those drivers will never forget me. It was during my college days.”
“You should file complaint at app and drop the matter there. you can mention rude behavior of driver. you might not have been the first customer to suffer from him. Let his rating go down. Dont bring everything to public,” the third user reacted.
In March 2023, a video of a verbal spat between an auto-rickshaw driver and passenger over language in Bengaluru went viral. The footage showed the auto driver refusing to speak in Hindi and berating the woman for not speaking Kannada.
