The love for pani puri in India is unhidden. The beloved street food has reached and captivated foodies worldwide with its crunchy texture and burst of flavours. Now, in a peak Bengaluru moment, an automatic pani puri vending machine at HSR Layout has got the Internet talking.

A viral post shared by an X handle @benedictgershom shows the stall, What The Flavors, and a staff member near the machine. The vending machine allows the customer to use the pipes attached to the structure to choose different types of water flavours for their puris filled with potato and chickpeas. The photo also shows the sensors and pipes installed which help the entire setup to dispense flavoured water when puris are brought beneath it. “HSR is living in 2050,” the X handle wrote.

Take a look at the viral post here:

Shared on July 14, the post prompted diverse reactions, accumulating over 11,01,000 views. Reacting to it, a user commented, “Too Clinical, isn’t enticing in my opinion. Can do better if some good visual design is applied.” Another user wrote, “This Pani puri won’t have “chemical X” as it will be hygienic.”

“Idk what’s “2050” about this, the tech has been around for years. City has bad roads, poor drainage,it’s impossible to walk on the streets without getting water splashed. Stop hyping blr for no reason. Infra is in shambles now,” a third user reacted. “It’s gonna flop. Nobody will like a Pani puri without the vendor’s sweat mixed in it,” another user wrote.

Early in July, the Karnataka health department revealed that it is investigating the use of cancer reagents in pani puri water at street food stalls in the state. According to reports, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has collected over 200 pani puri samples from various locations across the state, including street vendors, shopping malls, wedding halls, educational institutions and offices.
